WE now turn to the drive side.
Loosen all six 8mm alternator
bolts but only remove the three bolts at two, six and ten
o'clock. These attach the housing to the engine. Remove
housing from the engine (pic 54).
- Remove starter clutch, spring and spring seat. NB:
Behind spring seat is a washer not shown in either the
official parts book or workshop manual. The washer is a
seat for the spring seat and must be fitted.
- Pics 55 and 56 show order of assembly and parts
assembled together. Remove breather pipe (pic 57).
Remove the one remaining bolt holding the chain guard
(10mm spanner) (pic 58) and the two 10mm starter motor
bolts immediately revealed (pic 59).
- Tap starter motor with soft faced hammer and withdraw
it from its housing (pic 60). Remove six gearshift linkage
cover bolts (8mm socket).
- If the gearchange shaft oil seal is not leaking and you
want to save money, wrap insulating tape around the
splines to stop the seal being tom when it is passed over
the splines.
- Use a soft faced hammer to release the cover if
necessary and withdraw (pic 61). Use pic 62 for
reassembly reference.
- Remove roller stopper plate bolt (pic 63) and the
plate (pic 64). Remove drum stopper arm nut,
washer, arm, spring and distance piece (pic 65).
