Remove 16 cap nuts and two bolts which retain the cylinder
head in crisscross pattern starting from the outside. Follow your
workshop manual diagram for exact order of nut and bolt
loosening and loosen a little at a time to avoid warping the head.
Note that all cylinder head nuts have copper washers other
than the two outer bolts. Some cap nuts need a 12mm spanner
and others 14mm.
The cylinder head can now be worked off (pic 25) but keep
the head upright or the shims may fall out. John’s taking a
chance in the picture!
That’s it for now. In the next issue we inspect the top end
and remove the barrels. For work on CBX engines contact John
