Base gasket

Post by mike209 »

base gasket in my cafe is coming out on the left and right side, not front and back, motor has 1500 miles after rebuild, I noticed it at around 500 miles but now 1/4" of a gasket is out so not much left inside. Yes, head was torqued down to specs. I was wondering if anybody ever seen something like this.

Looks like you are missing some dowel collars. They locate the cylinder and gasket and that almost can't happen if they are in place.

Did you put gasket on dry ?? Or use a sealant?

Is there any chance you ripped it a bit while fitting it over the cylinder studs?

No, if I did I would replace it with new gasket right away, there is no oil dripping yet but exposed gasket seems to be soaked with oil, maybe its just crappy gasket

Assume you used a new gasket @ rebuild, was it a Honda OEM one, or something else?

I'd also check your crankcase vent to be sure it's not blocked.

Dave, I have small k&n filter on crankcase vent and it was new when I put engine together so this should be good, new gasket came in today, I will take it apart in a week or two and I am going to post what I found.
