Tach Cable oil seal orientation

Which way does the tach oil seal face when replacing ? Does the open side face the motor or face out toward the incoming cable. Got removed by error and its been a while. Thanks......

I always put the open side toward the oil you don't want to leak. Another words open side towards the motor. It works for me.
