Hi from Ontario

Post by MarkToo »

Hey guys.

I was 12 when the CBX hit the streets and was blown away by it's sound and looks. It was the only bike I knew I had to have some day. Fast forward 25 years and I picked up an '80 and a '79. Both bikes needed work as they hadn't run for years and weren't cared for when they did. I got them both running and respectable looking - decided I liked the '80 the best and sold the '79 and haven't looked back. That was 10 years ago now.

The '80 is a stock, red bike except for a Winning Performance (I think it is), 6 - 1 exhaust (factory pipes were shot). Not a show piece but a respectable driver.

With family and work, I don't get to ride as much as I'd like but I love to get out on short solo hops when I can.

Looks like a great site - found it searching for info on setting/shimming the valves as this is something I should get to sooner than later.

Anyhow, glad to be here.

Mark

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.

Welcome Mark, and thanks for the great intro. My CBX 'story' is pretty similar to yours. Let's see a few pics of your bike!

Hi Mark, welcome to the site.
There are a number of members from Ontario although a road sighting of a CBX is extremely rare.

Thanks for the welcome.

You're right Steve, I don't see many on the street any longer. My town, Cambridge used to be the CBX capital back in the day. We had a disproportionate amount of them. There are still quite a few I guess but more and more are sitting hidden away in garages I suspect.

I realized I really don't have many pictures of the bike except for a few of these dated cell phone pics. You'd think someone with photography as a hobby would be a little more on the ball. I guess when I have time to roll it out of the garage I'm not thinking about photo shoots...

Here's what I've got for now. They're 4-5 years old. The bike looks the same - the kid doesn't...

I was at Performance Cycle on Beaverdale about 8? years ago and heard great tales about the CBX "gang" that lived in the area.
My '79 came out of that shop and through a bunch of owners after that.

The bike shop is still there. Paul still owns it as far as I know and Jed Snider still has a machine shop just around and behind the bike shop. He doesn't make pipes or anything for the CBX any longer but the last time I was at his home shop there were still a handful of CBX's in there - 3 or 4 maybe. Snider used to make some pretty cool pipes for the bike back in the day. He also used to spend a lot of time riding the CBX on one wheel from what I remember...

I really like the black painted engine on your bike. Looks great!

About 6 months ago, James Elliott was selling a 6-1 that Jed made.
Don't know if he still has it.
In January? a buddy got into the barn where Paul stashed all his "projects". Some interesting bits but it had been pretty much picked over.
