Hey there from Cape Town South Africa

Post by GIJoe »

Hello all, Yes i know this forum is mainly for the large 6 cylinder monster, but i thought I would pop in to poke around a bit :)

I ride a 1987 CBX750 which I have had for roughly 6 months now and still enjoying every minute, so far I have done a few minor improvements such as recovering the seat, replacing the front wind visor with a black tinted one and few other odds and ends with the electrics that were acting up on the ignition and starter, but overall its a great bike for commuting which is my primary use for it.

I have an issue with the left overflow pipe leaking fuel and its started spluttering a bit (and noticed some fuel in my oil) so ive parked her in the garage and will do some much needed carb cleaning this weekend followed by a oil change, new plugs and filters etc...which im hoping should get me mobile again

I look forward to chatting and throwing ideas and thoughts around!!

Attached a pic i took a few months ago before the new screen and seat was redone, i still cant keep my 4 year old off it so get used to seeing him on the majority of pics I post

Have a good week all!

Good looking young man riding that bike! I bet he can't wait till he is old enough to really take it for a ride.

You are spot on, he is crazy for anything on 2 wheels. Taking him to a bike shop is like trying to hold hands with a octopus, out of control!
Its awesome :laughing-rollingyellow:

Honestly, when I remember how I was as a young man on my bikes I shudder at the thought of allowing my own offspring to ride til they are at a more sane age. Like, 30, if I use myself for reference.

Luckily I have no offspring!

I am not so sure, if that would be the right hing to do. A lot of basic skills are easier aquired and honed when you are young. I remember I started riding when I was 12. Because we could not legally ride on the streets, we kids all rode in the fields on dirt roads. With old handed-down and out-of-commission motorcycles from othet townspeople. The biggest one was a 250cc. I also rode in the sidecar of a motocross unit. By the time i was 16 and was able to get my first street-legal motorcycle (50cc, 6hp two-stroke) I had my share of (harmless )crashes behind me and was able to control the bike pretty well. I graduated to a 350cc two-stroke Triple when I was 18, and that thing was blisteringly fast. Had only one accident on this one. I got my CBX in 1978. But by that time, I had plenty of experience and practice from piloting a sidecar racer and riding various other streetbikes. Now, that all happened in Germany and times were different.

But I compare that with the legal drinking age in the U.S.
If you would allow young adults to drink before they are allowed to drive, they would have had their experience with alcohol and drinking and driving would not be such an issue. Lower the drinking age to 16 and raise the driver's license age to 18.
