Howdy from N. Texas

Post by 4cRanch »

For years I've had a lust for these muscle-head bikes and now getting an opportunity to own a few. I purchased my '80 X from board member Texas SS, who was moving out of state. Hope to spend some great time with it, but first things first. The carbs had been rebuilt a year or so ago but need a good cleaning to get it back on the road. I'm pretty skeptical tearing into them since they can be over whelming. I'll be in the hunt for a very trustworthy mechanic that can do the job right, the first time. Any leads near Ft. Worth much appreciated.

I spend a lot of time on the Goldwing sites as we're planning a 2-3 month trip on it next Spring. But for my short trips I want this CBX ready ASAP and I also beat around Weatherford on my V65 Magna.

Hope to get better acquainted, I'm more of a lerker and try to learn from the true wrench turners.

Welcome to the ICOA site, Ken!
If it is just cleaning that your carbs need, this can be done by yourself with a little patience, care, our help and advice and Mike Nixon's excellent carb overhaul instruction booklet (available directly from him or on ebay).
This will get you a little closer to your new aquisition and it is not all that difficult.
Personally, I hate to recommend anybody in particular for two reasons:
A - these guys are usually very busy and I have no idea if they are ready to take on another set of carbs with a decent turnaround time.
B- we had some really nasty fallout here on the forum as several participants got into heavy arguments about who does the job best and who is not to trust. There was some "axe grinding" involved and we should stay out of this.

You may be contacted via personal mail (pm - see the clickable note about new messages above in the blue headline) regarding this, if someone has something to offer.
