Rear Axle - '79 vs. '80
Hi,
Are the '79 and '80 rear axles the same / compatible?
The Z and A have different swinging arms / wheels, but not sure if the rear axle is the same or not.
thanks,
Paul.

??
what part-numbers do you have
I have 42301-422-000 for both years. B and C have a different part-number, 42301-MA2-000.

Paul: Don't know where you got that number from, but it is the rear axle for the DOHC CB750F, 1979-1981. Don't say it couldn't fit, but it is not the original part for the CBX-A

Partzilla says it fits a couple bikes and years.

Re: Rear Axle - '79 vs. '80
Hi,
I got the part number from CMSNL, For the Z it lists it as 42301-422-000 whereas for the A it has (unusually) two entries in the parts list - first one is 42301-422-000, second one is 42301-445-000 (when I first checked I looked at the second one, and didn't notice the first).
So, the -445- has superceded / replaced the -422- at some point I guess.
So, the -445- fits, but does anyone know if they are identical?
Paul.

Re: Rear Axle - '79 vs. '80
They are definitely not identical. The part-number would not be different, if they were. Honda was very methodical in their numbering system. An identical part keeps the same part-number, even if used on a different bike.
The difference may be in the total length or the thread length, something not relevant for fit in the CBX.
It could even be that they have a different surface finish, e.g.: chrome vs matte steel. The CBX-B and C axle has a different part-number again.
