Hi Everyone,
I've decided that it's about time that I joined up with this forum - I was a race bike/car engineer for many years, including stints with the Lucky Strike Suzuki GP Team (as data engineer for Kevin Schwantz), various European Super Truck Race Teams, a rake of F1/F3/F3000/Group C teams, etc. My last lot were the Ferrari UK Sportscar Team.
I've owned a CBX (of sorts) for over 30 years, and have just bought a standard (US import) bike needing a lot of love.
The former I bought in 1984 as a 1000Z engine that had been stripped and given up for lost. It took me months to figure out how to put it all back together again! During this time I built a strange Moto Martin-like frame for it - it was one of the first bikes that we all know today as 'Streetfighters', being built for a blend of custom looks and excellent handling. It won a whole array of shows in 1985 including the Performance Bikes Magazine award for 'Best Performance Bike' at 'Bikeworld 85' in Doncaster, and it was also featured in various bike mags. I will do my best to dig out some photos of it later.
The CBX I bought yesterday is at the other end of the spectrum, being - apart from the exhaust, totally standard. My intention is to make it as close to how it left the factory as I can - with the exception of the awful US-spec high bars which will get replaced by UK-spec ones as soon as I can find any!
In addition to the above, I also have a spare engine - albeit in pieces and with various parts missing. My hope is that I can find the time to build a sort of RC165/250-6 historic racer lookalike with it. Watch this space!
