At last a CBX

Have just purchased a 1980 CBX. She looks a bit tired and worn out from the photo's I've seen (she is in Durban and I'm in Port Elizabeth South Africa). Hoping to get her here by the end of the week and then the screaming starts (restoration). I will take any advice, assistance or guidance in this endeavour. Suffice to say I'm not known for my technical prowess. Thought it would be a good idea to join up with people that also "enjoy" (understatement of note) the CBX.
I'll post all the "numbers" to add to the database when she's home.
Hope to get to know you all a bit better.

Welcome Mac!
There are a few other folks from South Africa here, you will find kindred spirits closer than you think. I had a great visit to your beautiful country a couple of years back on an Edelweiss tour, absolutely loved the beautiful coastal area near Durban and Port Elizabeth.
We will totally enjoy helping you get your bike back on the road and looking and running great.

Hi Mac,

from Jo'burg. You're certainly at the right place, plenty of knowledge here.
First bit of advice - there are no short cuts with these bikes. But the effort is worth it, for sure. Enjoy getting your cbx running and post some pics.
Cheers,
Mike

Was just reminding myself of my visit - we stayed at a lovely beachside hotel in Summerstrand, next to a mall and casino and across from a concrete pier into the ocean. One of the lovelier areas of the country. Such a beautiful, interesting country.

Welcome to the site, Mac.
There are plenty of us here that are not known for our technical prowess so you will have company.
Thank goodness there are also excellent mechanics and builders to steer things along.

Welcome Mac! Love the '80s - the best of the breed, I think. Look forward to seeing what you are dragging home!

Renovations are moving along, but I've found out that the rear axle collar on the sprocket side of the bike was missing. Well that's what it looks like to me. I've used schematics off the CMSNL web site to confirm. Unfortunately a new one is not available. My options would be to find a second hand item or get one turned, but for either option I'm going to need the sizes.
Can anyone assist with ID, OD and overall length?

Post some photos or I ain't helpin'.
Seriously though, I'll see if I can measure the one on my bike without taking it apart. The ID is the easy part, it needs to be sized to fit closely to your axle, so get that from there. Stand by...

Nope, sorry, can't get to it without taking the wheel off.
Let's see if Dave or Mike V wander by. Mike has one apart, could likely measure it for you.

I have a million of them laying around here - just a bit gimpy these days and hard to get around. I'll see if I can hunt one up tomorrow AM.

After posting the previous note I started have a de-ja vu moment. I thought I had posted "before" photo's when I first got the bike. I found them in the engine and frame No thread.....................clearly the wrong place.
Early days on the forum, that's my excuse.
As promised I will post "after" pic's once the bike is all together again.
Cheers
Mac
