Stock Airbox Mounts

Post by Crazy Canuck »

I removed my airbox for some paint touch up, and noticed that the little L-shaped mounting brackets are missing.
Question is, How necessary are these? I don't have any, and it seems to me the box would be OK floating around as the carbs and the filter box kind of hold it in place.
Comments are appreciated.

While addressing an issue I had to tilt the engine forward. I let the airbox loose from carbs so engine does not pull airbox with it. To my surprise , the bracket was not connected to frame with 2 Botha that are near the tank and the whole airbox was free to move. Not sure if old owner had it like that but I have had 1000 miles like this with no issues

I have a bracket for that. I can put it in with your oil lines if you like.

It's two separate little l brackets, are those the ones you have? If so sure that would be great.

Are you talking about the bracket that attaches to the top of the front air box. If it is that is one bracket. It doesn’t show it on the parts diagram

Yes it the bracket that is mounter to the back of the "Air Chamber", and I think the bolts go down through the frame to attach the Chamber to the bike.

Does that make sense?

OK I finally found a picture of what I need and it is a one piece deal that bolts on with two screws

The problem with running without that mount is that everything 'sags' and the fit between the central air chamber and the filter box is compromised. I'm working on a '79 now that was missing that bracket. I put one back on and it took quite a pull to get everything back into it's proper place. Find that bracket if you can.

I second that advice. My 79 has the bracket but the two bolts were missing . I could see how much sag and unnecessary stress was put on the carb clamps . The airbox is connected to air filter and somehow attaches to battery compartments. It all goes out of its character :)
