1980 cbx starts great when used regularly, however when first started with choke engine runs, then after 10 to 15 secs rpm's quickly decrease and cuts out.
So to work around, I Usually just get on the bike and within a couple of minutes, with choke off, is warm enough to idle anyway.
Also loss of power at top end, bike revs OK to redline in all gears accept 5th, where top speed is only about 90mph.
Appreciate any suggestings which may help.

Re: Choke issue
I would have thought redline in fourth let alone fifth would have gotten you faster than 90mph.
Do you have the stock chain and sprockets[18/42]?

Re: Choke issue
Redline in fourth with stock gearing is 120mph. Sounds like you might have a couple of issues. Check to make sure your choke halves are not separated. Check for other intake/exhaust restrictions. Check timing and advancer operation. Sure your clutch isn't slipping badly?

Bought bike from Germany, don't know history or when carbs last serviced. Clutch seems ok, will check other issues.daves79x wrote:Redline in fourth with stock gearing is 120mph.
