Tires, Tires, Tires Which ones to buy?
I am restoring a 79 CBX and am having a difficult time deciding which tires to buy. The bike will be an stock restoration with the sport handlebars and rearsets.. I am more interested in appearance than performance as I will use it but not abuse it, but am not afraid to buy an agressive style tire.. Avon AM26, seem to catch my eye so far in 100/90/19 and 120/90/18 sizes. Help, photos appreaciated.

Most people with stock or close to stock sizes prefer Bridgestones. They make a couple of different tires that fit.
Continental also came out with a new line of tires for vintage bikes.

I use the GT501,s they are ok decent mileage and grip but they do not look as nice as some other tires but that is not that important perhaps.

I was considering using the GT501's but agree something more period correct would be better. The question is what looks nice..

Re: Tires, Tires, Tires Which ones to buy?
I have run GT501's on my 81 CBX with great success. I confess I have never bought a tire based on its looks or how it looked on a bike or car. I try to buy the best performance I can for the money I can afford to spend.
But I guess if your bike is a collector and not a rider, then how it looks may be more important.

A lot of people had problems with the sidewalls cracking on the RoadRiders. A Google search turns up complaints from various websites.
I would make sure if you did go with the Avons to get a very recent build date.

I have Michelen on my 79. good grip, can't comment on mileage yet.
I have Pirelli Sport Demons on the Travesty, can't say much about them yet but they look nice. I went with the 120/90 18 on the rear but think I could have gone with a 130/90 18......damn tires on the CBX look so damn skinny!

Bridgestone has some supermoto tires i was looking at bt090's i think? but depends on what you're looking to get out of the tires, mileage or performance
