2015 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid Ohio

Post by EMS »

Although many say that the days of VMD at Mid-Ohio are numbered and the AMA is doing their best to kill this event, the number of people there and the size of the swapmeet indicate different. It is still very much alive.

6637

The only thing that is far from what it was in the past is the racing event. Not many entries and sometimes, really boring action as there is only one bike in a specific class.
On Friday, the swapmeet was still a mudpit in places because of the rains in the days before.

6638

By Saturday in had dried out quite a bit, however.
The first thing, you have to do when you get there, is go through the swapmeet. Otherwise you may miss desirable stuff.

There are always CBXes for sale.

CX500 and CX650 Turbos were the sale item this year. Quite a few in average to very good condition and a bunch in pieces

A really nice CB1100F

Some visitor bikes

The bike show left things to be desired. Some bikes didn’t really qualify as show bikes, IMO

Others did

Finally, the racing events. Although I have been able to get some good shots in past years, this time, my camera did not want to cooperate. No matter how hard I tried, I could not get a good shot of Will Brint on Tim’s CBX.—Maybe he was too fast?

Back in the paddock, Bill, his dad, was deep in thought about this

All in all, it was a nice event. Personally, I will not give up on it yet and we will see what the future brings
Maybe, we should bring the ICOA hospitality activity back and do some form of lunch or other social event at the pavilion. Food for thought.

Mike, thanks for the pics and report.
Do you know what was the asking price of the rough CBX.

The burned one on the trailer had a $2500 price tag. I tried not to laugh. I MIGHT have given him $500.

The seller asked me, if his price was "in the ballpark".. :D I told him ever so gently, No. ;-)
He said that the bike should be of interest because frame and engine serial numbers were original to each other. Well...I told him he could not expect to get any more than maybe $1,200.-

The first picture of the one on the trailer was $5,500.-, the second picture is the one with the high VIN number from Canada. It was $4,500.- and gone on Saturday morning.
Dave saw another 1980, which I never found, unfortunately, and Jan saw a silver 79 for sale, which I also missed.

The red '80 was sold also by Friday PM. It was a Japanese-made model and was in pretty fair condition. Could never find the seller to ask the price - but someone did!
