2015 Vintage Days

Post by Rick Pope »

It's still a little early, but I just got word from Jeff Davis that the Honda Pavilion has been secured for our use for Vintage Days 2015. The dates for the Vintage Days (VMD) are July 10 - 12.

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.

Vintage Days is a celebration of older bikes, but generally not the really old ones. Mostly, 1960's and newer is represented.

There is a huge swap meet, with all kinds of vendors. Every from junk, to new reproduction and NOS parts. Lots of bikes for sale too, from perfect restorations to "projects".

There is also vintage racing of all kinds. Road racing, motocross, trials, and at a nearby fairgrounds, flat track.

The event is held at Mid-Ohio race track in Lexington, OH, and this year is July 9-12.

The Honda Pavilion is just a tin roofed open structure that provides a little shade and shelter for our group. Also a nice gathering place to park the bikes.

Just some additional info about Vintage Days. This event is sponsored by the AMA and its primary purpose is to raise funds to support the Motorcycle Heritage Museum of the AMA. In addition to a lot of racing featuring vintage bikes and usually some motocross racing, again with vintage bikes, this event also has huge sway meet.

This swap meet features folks from all over who bring their old motorcycle parts, and motorcycles for sale. You will see collectors spending their entire days looking through the swap meet for the parts they need to complete a restoration or just get an old bike running again. Most of the sellers are not professionals and you can normally haggle over prices. Sometimes you can get lucky and get the price reduced as time to leave rolls around and the seller does not want to carry the part home, Of course by that time, someone else may have bought the part and you are out of luck.

Food and drink is usually for sale, but not cheap. You are usually allowed into the pit area to get a close up of the bikes being raced. There is normally an auction of bikes ranging from antiques to newer stuff---bring a full wallet.

Naturally there is a fee to enter and you can get advance tickets and you can get them for a little less if you are an AMA member: http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/eve ... ation.aspx
You can also call them at: 800-262-5646

But act quickly as the special pricing ends May 29th. You do have to be an AMA member to get the special pricing so have your card handy.
