Pretty psyched to report that I am off to South Africa on 1/26 for a 2-week tour with Edelweiss Bike Travel with three of my oldest and best friends.
We did a trip with them in Austria a few years ago, their 'Alps Touring' trip, and it was excellent.
This one looks pretty epic - 14 days on the bikes - 2500 miles or so, 36 hours in Kruger Park (huge wildlife preserve), Johannesburg to Capetown. This trip has been 2.5 years in the planning.

Have been variously preparing for a month or so, getting vaccinations for scary things, reading my guide books, getting the business ready for me to be gone, inventorying my gear. Spent some of the last week on GPS stuff, loading maps and routes, getting a mount and power source organized. Just finished that this morning. I have some spare faceshields inbound and then I'm pretty much done with my preparations and it's time to start packing it up
