For those considering Barber, you might want to start thinking about reservations. The America's Best Value Inn near the track is booked. There is another ABVI in Irondale 10 miles from track. It still has rooms at $50/night. (Similar to a Motel 6.) Quality Inn at same place is ~$90/. Holiday Inn same place ~ $110/. Clarion near the airport is ~$115/ (about 15 miles). Motel 6 about 30 miles on Southwest side of Birmingham is 40 -50. These are just those familiar to me. For now, I've booked the ABVI at Irondale. [Planning to arrive Thursday; leave Sunday.] There are a couple decent restaurants nearby.
