What You are not coming to Celevelandcbxtacy wrote:I'm also considering a 50cc (coast to coast in 50 hours) from San Diego to Savannah, GA. Then a casual return, doing about 300 to 500 miles a day and stopping in towns where CBX'ers live. If we do the 50cc the weekend after Labor Day, traffic will be light. Then Monday morning we can ride up the coast from Savannah to Jacksonville, NC. Home of Mike Morley. Our presence could awaken him out of hibernation. From there Tuesday to Deals Gap. Good place to spend the night. Wednesday we will go to Memphis. Bike Night every Wed in Memphis. They close off Beale street except for bikes. We'll park right in front of BB Kings Club. Thursday to Oak Grove, MO, just east of Kansas City. Friday to Omaha, NE to visit Dan Uhing. He said we could ride his single sided swing arm CBX down I 80 as fast as we want to. And he'll pickup the tab for dinner and drinks at the restaurant on top of Harrah's casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Really. (That alone should get The Pope on this adventure) Saturday to Chris's in Longmont, CO. He's cool. He'll let us take his bikes off-roading. Sunday to Green River, Utah. We might check out Moab on the way. Monday and all the tourists are at home with the kids in school and we ride over the Devils Backbone, Bryce, Zion, VIRGIN River gorge (yes, there are virgins in the gorge), to Mesquite, NV. From there, we might split up if others need to return but I plan on heading to Alice's restautrant for dinner in the hills above San Jose. I figure we can get really stupid in the hills because the way Terry rides and he still has his license means he probably has good connections (or a good lawyer on retain) and he can save us from embarressment. South from San Jose in the morning, Wednesday I believe by then, to San Diego. That's all folks.

Well... I'll take your Turbo on with my Ducati 916SPS. From a standing start, I will be ahead of you for the first 1/8 of a mile, then you may pass me and could be ahead until, let's say, we hit 120-130mph. Then, when you run out of steam, I'll shift into sixth gear and pass you again. Or I go by in the first turn. My KZ1300 with FI may also be a little faster on the 1/4 mile.

That's why I like older, slow bikes with 100hp or less. I'm capable of riding them to their potential. My CBR1000RR (stock) scared me and I never pushed it to it's potential. Not even close. EX500's are fun. They're so cheap that I consider them disposable bikes. And they're light and real flickable. I paid $500 for mine and sold it for the same. New owner used it to learn how to ride and now he has a 1200 Bandit and his wife is learning how to ride on it.

Terry, I know that a Hayabusa are the fastest stock bike out there, but i would bet that my bike will beat any stock one on top end, but I would not do it myself.I will get George to do it . My bike is very hard to hold onto since I do not have a faring. I have had it to 163mph now and it has plenty to go for sure. Only a lucky few people out there can tell you what it is like to ride non stock turbo bike. There is nothing like it. I hate getting on my stock CBX now. I am running it at 13lbs of boost and will change it to 15 pound in to weeks. I am putting new pistons in as we speak and installing as I call shim under buckets as well. This will help if I screw up shifting.

Knowing how my 79 feels at redline in 5th I'm sure I'd rather be on my Busa for anything faster. Is your suspension anywhere close to being able to handle those speeds? I once knew a guy who put a Hemi into a 49 Dodge pickup but over 120 the truck started to wander around a bit too much if you know what I mean. I was next to him one night in an early model Shelby 350 (that redlined at 8,200 rpm BTW) when he started 'wandering'. Scary! The Hayabusa is certainly the most rock steady motorcycle I've ever been on at speed. A real pleasure to ride fast. I still haven't pegged the tach in 6th or even 5th I don't think, close, but not all the way. One time that I took a quick look down, the speedo was backing away from the 180 peg. You run out of road pretty quick at those speeds, but then, isn't that what Nevada is for?
It ain't the destination, its the journey...
