I will do a dream portrait once I have them restored which won't be long. I have all the decals in from several suppliers. I applied the Honda decal to the back of the tail piece but can' seem to get the application layer off without pulling the decal off. I will try my heat gun and see if it will weaken the glue and release the decal. Anyone else have that problem with old Honda decals?

Larry,Are you talking about aftermarket decals or Honda originals? The originals for the gas tank are solvent based and are now 29 years old and from experience break up so best to go for replacement ones like those sold by Sunrise Graphics in the UK www.sunrisegraphics.co.uk which are water based and or self adhesive. This thread seems to have gone off course as thought it was about VINS?! Whats a Dream Portrait when it is at home? all the best cbxmel ICOA 1876

Chris,
Here is my "DREAM PORTRAIT" for my 2 CBX's that you asked about: http://www.spookytoms.com/SpookyTom-MTRCCL.html
They still need some work like pulling the engines and repainting them.

Thanks.
My story..................Last June I was driving my 82 CB750 back from my dad's in Clinton, Mo. down one of those small rural highways. I passed a silver CBX coming the other way on a turn in a small town and was struck by all that chrome coming down the front of the engine. He had an evil smile on his face as we passed and now I know why. That was when I caught the bug. I didn't have the cash so just drooled over every one that showed up on Ebay. They have a good resale like the first couple years of the CB750's so I was interested.

You need to drive a 69 CB750 with the original #140 main jets in the carbs. Really impressive for a 1969 bike of any kind. I like all my bikes but have to admit that my CBX is my new favorite of the collection. I would like to eventually add a red 79 and black 80 to my CBX stable. I don't mind doing a lot of work to have a nice bike so I will probably look for a rough example of each. Actually, adding my sweat to the project makes me enjoy it even more.
How about more people loading links to your collections. I can't be the only one with a website.

Mine looked just like this one only it was bored to 852ccs and ran the stock but modded four original pipes, drilled airbox and huge jets (I forget what size now) and K81s. Ran 12.20s with me on board (240 lbs) at the Sacramento Raceway in the mid 70s. Took it on my very first multi state tour through the northwest in the early 70s. Loved that bike.

Nice looking. I bet you wish you had it now. Just got in a green 71 with a bored and oversize cam engine done by a professional shop. I love all my 750's.

Twinegar:
Very nice collection of bikes. I hesitate to say this, but a word of advice: don't get in a big hurry to get the CBXs 'done'. Working on them is a labor of love, to be sure, but not studying and thinking out every procedure you do on them can result in some very expensive mistakes. It takes at least a week of evenings to just rebuild the carbs - more if you are polishing everything - for example, and that's if you've done them before. Lots of pitfalls and tricky 'need to be followed' procedures unique to the CBX if you are to be satisfied with the results.
I'm just saying - don't set yourself a timetable that isn't flexible for when you run into the inevitable problem. You will be rewarded in the end.
