Jumping in a little late here. I've been trying to find the total number of 1982 CBX's that were made for the US and then worldwide. I thought it might have been around 1500 US but I've seen possibly as many as around 5000 (worldwide?). I have 400719. Thanks for any help.

There are no official stats on total production numbers, much less how many by market. But yes, there were somewhere close to 5000 total '82s made.

Hi Guys, i bought my honda cbx 79 in Argentina and i would like to know the build date of the bike. Sadly, it has been repainted and the vin tags are missing, but i have the vin number of the frame (CB12020608) and of the engine (CB1E-2020751). I know my bike was sold as "rest of the world", but it has a strange config: USA alternator (star shaped), km/h dials, full sport kit and 2 holes in the "neck" of the fork (behind the headlight) and 2 holes on the left side of the frame, where the original vin tags where riveted.

The only CBXs with large VIN tags on the steering neck, where you say there are two holes, were ones made for the US and Canada market. Canada market bikes had km speedos. The sport kit could have easily been added. The two holes on the left side of the frame are for the small info tag found on these bikes also.

The build date would likely be late '78, Nov or Dec. Slight possibility of Jan '79. EMS could tell you for sure if he is reading this and chooses to respond.

Thank you very much Dave! Very interesting info. All 78/79 models (z) were made in Japan, right?

Also, it is worth to mention that I have the "flash to pass" button on my left switch. It is a strange config indeed...

Here is a little update for those of you who are interested in this!

So far, my record keeping has resulted in the following chassis numbers built in each month. These are only those numbers that I can definitely assign to a built date.
One big problem is, that all CBXes sold outside of the U.S. and Canada did not have a date on the VIN plate and the chassis numbers are slightly different.
I found one mystery so far: A 1982 CBX in California supposedly has VIN number JH2SC0601CC401249 and a frame for sale in Germany had SC06-2401249

Thank you very much Joe! I was looking everywhere and I couldn't find them in aluminum, only as a decal
