A shot in the dark here.
Anyone have any idea of how many of the approximately 1,800 1980 CBX's made in Japan were sent over for sale in Canada? Mine still has the original speedo with 240 kmh on the outside and 150 mph on the inside. Going to the appraiser's next week and just wondering if I should mention these numbers to him. I'm thinking if the Japan built 1980's are a rare breed, the ones that came factory with a 150 mph speedo on them (granted on the inside) must be even harder to find?

The first 1980 CBX made for Canada had VIN --1296. So, even if ALL remaining 1980 CBXes would have gone to Canada, there would be only around 500 produced for CAN. My (uneducated) guess is, there were, maybe, 150 in total.
I have 1348, 1387 and 1476 recorded as Canadian bikes

Thank you for that educated guess. I had thought maximum 10%, so MAYBE 180.
You can add VIN #1660 (if you use the frame numbers) or #1593 (if you use the engine numbers) to those you have recorded that were made in Canada. You do use the frame numbers as reference right?
I will try and post some pics of my bike when I get the tail section back this week. Pretty happy with how she cleaned up.
Thanks again EMS, you da man!

In case someone is picking on the semantics...We are talking Japanese-production 1980 CBXes only!

Just wondering if anyone has any idea to what different countries all the 1979-1982 CBX's went? US is a given, Canada too, how about countries in Europe? Australia? How many stayed in Japan? Where some sent to different places? Ideas?

The CBX went basically all over the world to countries where Honda had dealerships. There were a certain amount of countries that received "country-specific" versions with differences in minor details due to local regulations. And Honda made "General Export" and "European Direct Sales" versions that went anywhere. Either in a "metric" or in an "English" version.
When the 1980 CBX was made in the U.S. (from Sept. 1979 on) there were no official Honda deliveries other than the U.S. and Canada and "General Export" bikes.

You have to use the red "Post Reply" link NOT the "Quick Reply" button in order to get the "Attachment" option

I've read through this thread with interest and had to go out to the garage and double check the numbers on my 1979 CBX. No made in the USA notation so should be one of the earlier bikes made in Japan if I understand this discussion correctly:
VIN CB1-2010027
ENG CB1E - 2010242

You misunderstand. NO ‘79 CBX was made in Marysville. The above discussion only applies to the ‘80 models.

Hey Mike, wondering if you would know the production date for my '82 pro-link. Strangely, the production month/date has been scratched of the VIN tag.

Chassis Serial #JH2-SC0604C402248
Engine Serial #SC03E-2402288
2022 KTM 890R, 1982 Pro-Link, 1979 CBX 'Z, 1975 Moto Guzzi 850T

FWIW. Some VINs (last 4) and their build dates from some 82 bikes we had in the shop.
1446 7/81
1983 8/81
2390 10/81

A previous post had 2364 9/81. So I would think 9/81 for your bike.
