I am still not convinced. The VIN number on the tag looks a little mangled and "re-stamped" I have a stack of these blank VIN tags that someone from Switzerland made at one time. The small output/housing alternator was a 1979 part only. It had a magnesium housing. Honda did not put that on the 1980. Only in the US and Canada did the fully adjustable shocks start with 1980. RoW had these in 1979 already

Not convinced about which bike? Or both? It is very easy to tell if both bikes have an '80 frame. The VIN tag would just confirm that, if it matched the stamped frame number and there were no witness holes in the headstock where a S or Canada VIN tag had been. The shocks are correct for an '80 no matter where it was sold. Both bikes have the small alternator - are you positive all '80s had the large one from the factory? I thought so too, but who would bother to find and install a much rarer Euro alternator or TWO random '80 CBXs?

They both appear to be '80 engines, again the serial numbers would confirm that.

Obviously, neither bike is close to original and the buyer really does not care about that.

If they're both 80's and a test ride revels no issues with either the choice becomes much simpler. The 2nd black/blue, lots of spares and considerably less cash.

Nevermind guys, the owner of the black CBX took back his word, saying that the spare parts and the engine were sold separately and that another buyer has already given a deposit for the bike. He did not behave correctly honestly. I will take the silver CBX that i wrote at the beginning of this topic, then. I managed to drop the price, from 10500 € to 9500 €, the owner will include the OEM spare parts such as the rotors, the single brake calipers and the suspensions.Next week we'll do the change of ownership finally. I'm happy anyway, because the bike is well maintained and the owner seems a proper trusted fellow.

You'll do okay with the silver bike and at a better price.

Great bike! Those brakes and rear shocks are a GIANT upgrade over stock, definitely would suggest you keep them. The rear shocks are pretty cool old Koni Special D shocks 7610-1413, and fully rebuildable, and in the process you could swap in silver springs for a closer-to-stock appearance. There are a few folks on the Continent that sell Ikon shocks, those parts can be used to make these old Konis work like new, and that's totally worth it. Norman Hyde is one that I know of:
