Sold one of my babys!!!

Post by Irishman1 »

We’ll, I sold my 79 cbx to a wonderful man, Rodrigo. He is a motorcycle enthusiast like me and has several bikes including a 82 cbx. I’m sure he will be a great steward of this treasured piece of history.
I of course still have my 80 and my 81 but will always miss my 79!
And all of my other bikes!!

I know that this might be a silly question but why did you sell the 79 vs 80 vs 81

Just thought I would ask

Bill

I’m still working on the 80 and the 81 is the one I like to tide on long rides. Unless I’m riding one of my gl1000’s
And I think it would have brought the most money

Well done Mike, Congratulations !!
Rodrigo seems to be a good guy. I
believe that your '79 has gone to a good new home.
Best,
Phil

Given a choice between keeping an equal-condition '79 or '80, give me the '80 all day long. Much better over-all bike. But you guys already know my thoughts on that - I've said it a million times.

Me too!! A little smoother and a tad better brakes, although I’ve never been bothered by vintage bike brakes. Just part of the experience!!

About he question of which is a better bike to live with, the 79 or the 80, 81 or 82, I look at my 79 and compared to my 81 the 79 is more expediently constructed. The later models seem to have better fitment of body parts, of all parts. The 79 is what you get when you tell a group of Honda race engineers to build a street bike. They emphasized performance not aesthetics. Not a bad thing, just part of the 79's personality.

WOW!! My very first post!!

Cool ! A man who appreciates the aesthetics of continuity and flow of lines of a bike.
(not to imply that others here don't). All four years had their attractive features but
the Honda styling engineers just couldn't seem to assemble them into what could be
a very beautiful unit. Welcome aboard Floyd !

Wow! Your very first reply (unless someone beats me to it). :D

Thank you for the welcome, Bob. From your posted picture, let me present my 900F. Original owner purchased 4-17-81 (I even remembered its birthday earlier this month). We've had some super trips in northern AZ.

Loyalty ! I haven't had mine that long (3rd owner) but it's been 27 years since
I built it. I would love to do 89a from Flagstaff to Prescot. On my bucket list !
