Hi all, this is my first post, i've just bought a 1980 cbx , i would like to know if the engine is original to the bike and if anyone can tell me anything more about it. the frame number is cb1 2017027 and the engine number is cb1e 2017176 hope you can give me a bit of info.

Looks like your numbers are close. I would say it came with bike. Very very seldom they match if any.

I agree, this spread is within the range of normal. For reference, I have a very early '80, #49, and my engine is #78. It stands to reason that the spread would be much closer earlier in the production run, but even within the very first days of production when mine was built, the spread was already 29 digits apart.

Your CBX is a '79, not an '80. CB1 is '79, SC03 is '80. Your engine number is only 30 past the number they moved the serial number to behind #6 and changed the shape of the crankcase and cylinders in the rear.
