New To Me '79 CBX

Post by FalldownPhil »

Hi, My name is Phil and I am a CBX addict :-) I really thought I was done buying CBXs. I had sold off most of my collection and was down to my Moto Martin and the Bonneville racer. Then I get a phone call asking if I know of anyone that might be interested in CBX VIN #44 ?? Well, yes I do. ME !!! This was the third production CBX off the line in the first hour of the first day of production in 4/1978. Interestingly enough, up pops a guy on the ICOA Facebook page that says he has #43. Indeed, I believe that he does. It is a basket case in NE Canada. I would love to see it put back together. I guess that I can still say that I have the oldest living CBX :-) It is in remarkably good condition and came with any original parts that have been changed. With only 8,500 miles it has great compression with 1-6 all within 2 pounds. Lucky me :-)
Best,
Phil

Phil, admitting you are a CBX addict is the first step to recovery.
I think the seller made a wise choice in contacting you. Someone that "gets" the importance of this bike.

Phil,
First off, let e welcome you back. You were away too long.

Second, congratulations on your find. It's nice to know it's in good hands.

As to the "oldest" CBXs, there's one in Indianapolis that is one of the pair that went to the US press fleet in '78. The magazines rode the silver one, and the red one was presented to the current owner as a token of Honda's appreciation for his services. I have no idea what the serial number might be, but I'd bet it's pretty low.

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.

Thank You Rick,
That is a really interesting story on the press bike. Maybe it is the missing #42 ?
I am pretty happy at having this one find me.
Very Best,
Phil

There's something magical about being able to trace a specific machine to that time and place when things were just getting started. It's wonderful to see that it's in such amazing condition.

Good score, and thanks so much for sharing!
