And I guess there are as many answers to my rhetorical question as there are people who do fix up old bikes altho' less for those who attempt to hot them up.

I'm in the latter group and have committed a kind of sacrilege by taking a perfectly nicely restored Prolink and hacking away at it with every kind of grinder until it almost stops being the bike it was. Forever dis-satisfied, the process will continue until it or I am finally dispatched.

My partner and others have repeatedly asked why and I haven't actually come up with an answer that makes much rational sense. Until I can win a race ? No, that won't happen. Until I can hop on it and ride competitively with nothing breaking or going awol? No, that will never happen either. The challenge? Give me a break!

Maybe somebody else can come up with a good answer and I can borrow it?

[*][/url]The CBX is my true love being a 40 year owner but this Yamaha 900 triple is amazing................half the cylinders... twice the fun... goes, turns and stops like a raped ape!! Luckily, at 59 yrs old, and after cervical, and lumbar fusion, rotator cuff repair and most recently an ankle replacement, I still need to get out and ride hard!!

The only two bikes that pulled my heart strings in recent years have been the Moto Guzzi Griso, (got one) and the Motus. I can't justify $30k for the Motus, but they're getting cheaper....... But the CBX is definitely a keeper.

there isn't a logical explanation for an obsession, we do it because we love it.

Thanks, moving slowly but surely :) . Tried two square headlights , made custom brackets , paint , after whole 9 yards , didn’t like them. Didn’t like the handlebar either. Back to round headlight that is made by koso. Got custom mounts from motodemic. Will be trying those out as and when time permits.

A square headlight on a CBX is borderline sacrilege. If you want a killer headlight, I have a couple of Suzuki 8 inchers if you want one...

Wow ...... the headlight looks sweet, like how it tucks back and lower into the fork tubes. That, combined with the inverted front end, bars and controls make a great combo.I will enjoy watching your progress......
