Stock rotors with holes

Hello guys, i was wondering what's the difference between stock rotors and the ones in the image below, in terms of braking efficiency. With 2 pot calipers and those perforated rotors, does the braking improve a little?

The stock rotors have a larger swept area than replacement twin-piston calipers provide. There will be an area that discolors. There are replacement rotors from other Hondas of the era that work correctly with twin-piston calipers.

The principle of drilling rotors is that you get these benefits:
  1. Venting to allow the escape of gasses produced when the pads and rotors get very hot -> less brake fade
  2. Less thermal mass and more surface area means the hot rotor can cool down faster -> less brake fade
  3. Less rotating mass -> more responsive steering
  4. It looks racy and cool -> makes you seem racy and cool
The main thing is some protection against brake fade, which is a big concern at a race track or in mountain riding - not much of a concern in any other context.

Because of these benefits, drilled rotors have been the norm in OEM applications for something like 35 years.

With that said, if you are not braking hard enough, often enough to risk brake fade, there's basically no benefit. Aftermarket drilling increases the risk of cracked or warped rotors - but many people have done it over a period of decades and in most cases everything works out just fine.

Some think it also has benefit in the rain, giving the water a place to be forced-to.

Thanks guys, so the only option for upgrading the rotors with 2 piston calipers would be eventually pro link ones or..? Any chance the rotors of late 80s Honda's would fit?

Do a few searches here, there are threads, including one I did.

The rotors and 2-piston calipers from later DOHC Hondas are a big upgrade - especially if you also go with EBC HH pads.

As Nils has mentioned, this has been covered. Here's a link to his excellent writeup on the subject:
