Hello Guys,
I am new to this forum so if I mess up please let me know.
I am the owner of Pistol Pete's Services and for 6 years I have been the business associate of Randall Washington of Randakks Cycle Shakk. http://www.randakks.com. We rebuild GL1000/GL1100 carburetors and we also rebuild GL1000 and other gauges.
As the owner of an 81 X with faded gauges we decided to try our hand at rebuilding them for these cool machjines as well.
Noteably the CBX gauges faded too fast and were difficult to see clearly at night. My X suffered the same issues.
Our new service is to rebuild CBX speedo and tach gauges to like new condition plus as an additional part of the faceplate exchange they are illuminated much better at night. This also includes "brightening" the needle arm as well.
We will offer rebuilds with cleaning, repairs, correct slow or lazy movements, re-applying the anti-fogging agent to the inside of the glass, alone or in combination with new faceplate exchanges (150mph, 80mph, 10k and 11k are available)
Also we will convert the 80mph gauges to the more appealing 150mph instrument with a new face.
Please check out our timeline for getting this service to fruition here: http://www.oldwings.com/services.html#gauge
It also has our introductory pricing for each level of rebuild.
If you have any questions please contact me at petesgl@hotmail.com
Thank you,
Pistol Pete

Thought I'd give a plug for Pete's gauge service. I sent a tach with a broken needle (I supplied a replacement needle) and was very noisy. Pete serviced the mechanism, installed the new needle and professionally sealed the unit. Very fast turn-around and very good communication. All for a very good price. The refurbished gauge works perfectly. I'll be using Pete's service again - I can't tear a gauge apart and even clean/paint it for the money we're talking here. And I can't service the mechanism (the most important part). A very good service.

That is great news, Dave. Thanks for the follow-up.
If you don't mind, what needle did you use and where did you get it?

I have lots of spare/junk gauges and swiped one from them.
