Seals for 79 petcock

Post by sixinoz »

My petcock started to leak so ordered a repair kit. From the photo is this a 79 petcock? With the kit I received two o rings as shown in the picture. Does the small one go on the bottom of the filter tube and the larger one goes where? as there was no o ring like this when I took it apart.
Is there any way to test the petcock off bike?
What seals the petcock to the tank spigot?

That is not the correct rebuild kit for the petcock. Neither o-ring is correct. Mike Nixon, Randakk, others carry the correct parts. Honda still has the rubber disc, not a CBX part number - 16955-268-020. You will have to source the small o-ring if yours is damaged.

Thanks for the reply, Dave.
The small seal does appear to fit the machined groove on the tank spigot and is a green colour. Do the dimensions look too small?
I will be contacting the supplier to see what he has to say.

What you need to rebuild is behind the plate with the two rivets.

Hi Phil,
Yep - have drilled out rivet type heads and tapped holes.New seal put in and reassembled.
The old seal was really worn out after 44 years :P
