Who knew there was a difference in tank mounts. I guess 1979 and 1980 are different in this respect too?
So my photos show the two types of mounts.

Had the same thing years ago.
I just trimmed the end of the post/tab off the frame.
Some good info in this old thread.

You have an early tank. Trim the posts off as mentioned.

I dont think I will be any cutting pieces off of my frame. Would it not make more sense to cut out the openings in the early tank?

I wouldn't cut on tank. It will likely cause a leak. The tanks are thin. If it bothers you and you don't want to cut the tabs on frame then sell tank and get correct one. I have boughten bikes that tabs was already cut off.

Cutting through the front tank mounts will not cause a leak, but I wonder what the issue is with cutting 5mm off the tips of the studs on the frame. :?

What I was referring to is jarring the tank too much while cutting into it. These tanks are very thin and old. I know where he needs to cut is not at the fluid area but they are welded to the tank within a couple inches of it and I would not chance it. I would not take a dremel or anything on my tank. :twocents-02cents:
