Gas cap recommendation 81?

Post by AshishNJ »

I have the oem gas cap with chrome still in good shape.
Tank was restored and painted to suit my streetfighter.
During the ride I see some bubbles coming out of key hole of the gas cap . Those vapors bubble also slowly show up as gas film on tank . Is that normal or the cap needs replacing. I would not mind getting a new cap even slightly different design as long it fits and cures the issue .

Any advice ?

They were still available from Honda last I knew. But I doubt there's anything wrong with yours.

I checked with 2 sources, still available from Honda.

Partzilla shows it for under $50.

Thanks JR.
Dave , I have a 79 but that has a different tank and cap all together. Are you suggesting it is normal on prolink tanks ?

Observation: With my 82, there develops a tinge of gasoline on the tank around the cap after riding. Remember, the tank vents through the cap. So, as the vapor comes out, some will condense in that area. Typically, right around the cap on the cooler tank surface. Won't harm automotive paint. Just wipe it whenever I refuel.

The original gas cap on my '82 would leak a little gas from around the gasket especially after filling the tank. It began to wrinkle the paint under the cap. The tank is original factory
paint. I bought a new cap from Honda and no more leaking.
