Wheel weight - yipes!

I just changed the rear tire on my 79. I had a Shinko 230 Tour Master (120/90-18) installed. While I had the opportunity, I weighed the tire and wheel. The tire is 16lbs and the wheel is 31lbs for a total of 47lbs! That's some flywheel back there. I haven't had a chance yet to measure the front but I will. Anyway 47lbs seems like an awful lot. Is there a decent lighter alternative? I like the originals as far as looks but yipes that weight!

I suspect Phil will chime in with some lightweight options.
Be prepared for some sticker shock.

Honda was so concerned about weight with the CBX that they made a magnesium alternator cover (for an otherwise very heavy alternator). But the wheels are just ridiculous, as were all the stock Japanese ones of the day. If they would have invested some in lightweight wheel/hub technology, they would have really saved weight.

Taint much you're going to do, here. Mag wheels (OEM) would have been very expensive. (Not to mention it's a bit brittle in the potholes at 60+.) And, they corrode at the thought. All that spinning weight does help keep the big top-heavy tipper upright, though. Wire wheels -- they have their neg side, too.

CBR600F2 was a popular swap, don’t know about the F3, 4 though?
