Felt grease seal for the shifter

Post by CopperCollar »

Anyone have a source for these?

I have seen them on ebay but for a crazy price.

Think they are something worth having made by a gasket company?

Mike: Yes, they are hard to find. Most got lost when a PO didn't know what he was doing. They are so simple, but nothing else will do in place of them. Just curious, how many guys here even know there are supposed to be 2 felt seals on the shifter pivot?

Shouldn't be hard to make with the right material, I just haven't looked into it.

I am looking at having some made, I think the min. order is 150 of them.

Just wonder if there is a need for that many.

I am not sure of the cost but I should be able to get then for less than the NOS seen on eBay.

I'd take at least 1/2 dozen sets of them. I'm sure you could eBay extra sets for a lot less and still recover your cost. Once guys here check and realize many of their bikes are missing the felts, I'm pretty sure you'd sell lots here too.

Now if someone would just make the special washers that hold the felts. Many bikes are missing these also.

I have a set Part # 46516-357-000

I measure OD 22mm, ID 18mm and 2.40 mm thick.

Anyone else want to confirm this?

Once I have the correct measurements I'll look into getting some made.

I'll underwrite it if you do the legwork. I have no doubt we could sell them all.

Doing some leg work in between my real job.

I will get on this and see who gives us the best deal, lot of places say they can do it.

I will pick a will/felt grade grease seal that closely matches the original.

Okay, I picked a manufacturer, I should hear back in a week or so.

The first batch will be 150 of them in the OD 22 mm ID 18 mm with 2.4 mm thickness.

I hope these measurements work out as I took them from a used but good felt washer.

Mike

I may be able to ship them in an envelope for the cost of a stamp. Cost each will be in the $2 -$4 range. I'll know more when I get the quote.

Okay guys.

Placed the order but the seals will be 3mm thick.

I hope that will be okay.

Should have them in 3 weeks.

Once I get them I'll try a set out. If they fit okay then I'll post the availability.
