FADED SWITCH PODS

Post by twinegar »

This has probably been covered before but it is worth doing again. If you own a 79 or later Honda with the handlebar switch pods that are made of the bakelight like material and they are fading to gray you don't have to pay an outrageous price for new or good used ones. Scrub the surface with pumice hand cleaner using a toothbrush and after cleaning, spray on a heavy coat of Armour-All and let it sit for a couple of days to give the spray a chance to soak in. I have treated two of my CBX's and after a month they still look new. Tamiya Model Company makes an oil paint marker, 89209 MP-9 Fluorescent Red that is a close match to the red lettering on the pods and is supposed to hang on better than the original paint. Model Master makes a fluorescent red brush on paint that is a perfect match to the gauge needle tips on a lot of bikes and probably the switch lettering if you can figure a way to apply it.

Mother's Polish brand 'Back To Black' works best for faded porous items on the X. Armorall will require more frequent applications than B2B. It works especially well on the blinker stalks. I reapply it 3-4 times a year to keep things BLACK. :D
It ain't the destination, its the journey...

Does it work to fill the stress cracks and paint the turn signals? I use Dupli-Color semi and low-gloss black a lot and it is very durable stuff and am considering restoring my turn signals that way. Is Back to Black a retail product or do you need to buy on line?

You can get it anywhere . . . . even WalMart

An even better product is/was 'Turtle Wax Black Chrome' - It works about twice as well as B to B does . . . . and I've used both. Only problem is, Black Chrome was discontinued about 4 or 5 years ago
