Is the gearsets from a later model identical in all respects to the '79 or are there concerns I should have using it?

If I'm not mistaken,the gear clusters/shift forks/shift drums should all be the same thru the entire 4-year production run and should be interchangeable.

Yes, MarK! Tranny is the same on all 4 models. Same primary drive ratio, same internal ratios and even same final drive ratio.
