I had some rattling noises when taking off that I believe was the alternator clutch so I disassembled it to have a look.

It appears that it's extremely worn out and that someone had a go at the oil grooves with a grinder.
I'm nearly 100% sure that I need to replace the friction plates because they are gone. It looks like it already had a shim on it.
I don't have much money right now so I want to get it fixed as cheap as possible until I can replace the entire unit with something more modern.

• What are the specs on the spring? Mine is just under 30mm.

• Will this washer/shim work? One (the oem washer?) is 1.52 mm and the other (the shim?) is 1.70 mm

I attached photos of the measurements and showing the relevant gaps on the friction plates.

I'd appreciate any help!

Yes, do check out Mike's excellent article. In addition, what I see is that both plates likely were in bad shape previously and were machined until smooth, which removed a lot of material. Additional shimming may help, but they are pretty thin. The spring has only sacked about a mm. You may contact Nils at Restocycle in Tucson. He resurfaces decent plates and may have some for sale.
