Post by camino1 »

I have an opportunity to purchase OEM red gauges altimeter and temperature, does anyone have an idea what I should pay for these ?

They are rarely seen new for sale these days, but I don't think there is a big demand either. Maybe $200-$300 for the pair. I personally wouldn't pay much more than that. But if you really want them (and I've had several copies of all three gauges), they're worth what the seller is asking, I suppose. I think the clock is the most valuable.

Thanks for the quick response Dave. He's asking $400 with the rubber boots and Im guessing Id pay shipping. Unfortunately I just put my 82 on the road after after a long winter of repairs, new clutch, carbs rebuilt, valves adjusted plus new tires just got here and the cash is running low. But those damn gauges would look cool !

Make sure the ambient temperature gauge comes with the sender unit. Without it, it is worthless. A lot of times, it is not included if the instruments were taken off a bike.

Plus-1 on what Mike advised. And make sure the sort of horseshoe clamps that hold the gauges in are there. I suppose that's an OK price. On the temp gauge sending unit - it fishes down through the fairing and is supposed to be mounted pointing straight ahead under the headlight. And - if you don't be very careful how you mount the temp gauge, the sending unit can rub through the fairing brace and render it useless. I've got two here to prove it. The '82 should have the fairing wire harness already in it. The very early '81s didn't and you had to order an accessory harness.
