Copy that Dave. Thank you. I tried Acetone; just cleans REAL NICE. Next up was PVC primer and "glue". No softening observed. Last was classic Super Glue. Some tack, but no significant bond after 15 minutes (like when I get it between two fingers)... Might go towards Dave's recommendation. Going to look into roofing adhesive. Stand by...

Still searching for an adhesive for the plenum box. Learning more about plastics than I ever thought I wanted to. Some really good info here if you have time for a read: http://www.henkelna.com/us/content_data ... 756739.pdf

Seems the assembly may be made from a "hard to bond substrate" type of plastic referred to as "TPV" or thermoplastic vulcanizate. Now to find an adhesive.

Here's one candidate. About $80 to the door with 35ml glue, mixing nozzle, and "special" dispenser.... OUCH!!!

So as another alternative, I looked on ebay for a used box. I wonder why everyone tears out the carb boots from the boxes for sale?

Brad:

I just realized that the late model air chambers aren't meant to come apart. The early ones that I was referring to have screws all around the front so that you can take it apart. Yes, you'd have to find a decent adhesive to put back together. Try E6000. Available at about any craft store/hobby shop. I use it for lots of things like this and it works great. Cheap, Too.

Brad,
Yes, E6000 is good stuff. Another good one I've found is J-B Weld Plastic Bonder. Comes in a Hypodermic type thing that you just squirt equal amounts as needed and mix. A nice reseal cap that lets it be stored easily. Can be used for almost any material. As always, with any adhesive, be certain to rough the surfaces and clean them before gluing. (Home Depot)

hey guys

so I did the wintergreen and xylene on my boots and it worked awesome. question now is, after I pull the boots from the solution do I need to stop the process somehow or neutralize the solution somehow? I am ready to take them out of the xylene/wintergreen bath but what now????

thx

Nope, just rinse them off and enjoy the minty-fresh smell of your shop for a while :-).

I bought a nice clean paint can at Home Depot and saved the brew.

Glad it worked well for you Kent!

Thanks Kent,

The storm has been a dud here so far, we will see what tomorrow brings. I did read that Cabo got hammered, did you check in on where you're headed?

Dying to go to Baja, will do that soon.
