Plastic refinishing results

Post by NobleHops »

Gang,

Here are the pics from the plastic refinishing. Somebody here or at CBXWorld suggested SEM Plastic Bumper Coating, and it was great advice. I did chicken out and have a friend that does body work spray it for me, after I carefully cleaned, degreased, and wet-sanded it all. The SEM paint comes in regular paint cans for professional sprayers, and also rattlecans. We used the plastic prep, designed to promote adhesion, then the paint.

I was unconcerned with preserving the silver fastener heads, and in fact preferred to have them coated, so we did not mask them.

I bought the stuff from these guys: http://www.tcpglobal.com/autobodydepot/sealcoat.aspx

They were a little slow to ship, not terrible.

The results:

Overall I'm really happy with the results, although I did respray the aribox side one more coat to reduce that fish-eye pattern you can in the second pic, and it looks better still. There are a few teeny scratches and gouges that I could have filled if I wanted to be super-anal, but all of the very fine stuff was filled by the paint. The parts look great, finish seems durable.

If I had more to do I wouldn't hesitate to buy more rattlecans and do it myself.

Recommended!
