Oil Analysis

Post by JoeInTUS »

I had an oil analysis done after my first oil change on my CBX. The bike is an 82 with 81 body work and a 79 engine with no history beyond a license plate that expired in 2008 so I was interested in getting a picture of the health of the engine. I used 4 quarts of Rotella T4 15W-40 and 1 quart of Rotella T6 15W-40 on the initial fill (oil lines were changed and cooler drained requiiring the extra oil). Honda oil filter. Oil was changed after 898 miles and seven months.

As stated by Blackstone, wear metals were a little high but nothing real scary.

At least you know that with a high calcium level, the bones are not brittle.....

Thought the zinc levels were notable myself. Rumor-dispelling even :-).

The Rotella is usually a Diesel- engine oil. I have never used it and don't know the Zinc levels, but would not be surprised if it is high.

Indeed a good zinc level, with Rotella. I believe JR mentioned that Rotella had dropped their zinc level to below 800 a year or so ago. I have used Honda GN4 forever, but cannot find an MSDS for it that lists the zinc levels. I just wish that vital info was more easily available to us.

I agree Dave, I have spent hours on the internet looking
for Honda GN4 zinc levels. Perhaps the only way to know
would be to have Blackstone do an analysis.
