Hone, non CBX

Post by broook »

I am putting rings and oil seals in a Yamaha 100cc 4 stroke motor for a friend but my regular hone will not fit in the bore. :(

Is there a way to do this by hand, emery cloth, sandpaper, etc. without spoiling it or would it be ok to just put the rings in. :?

hi broooooooooooooook

you could take a stick or pice of metal (aluminum is easy to cut), cut a slot in it and then insert some emery cloth and whirl it around as you zip up and down a little. 45 degree cuts would be good; in practice just a little roughing is what you need to break the glaze or polish from the old rings and let the new ones in. only a little is needed, just to "scratch" the surface. I'd definitely break the polished surface somehow.
Big and small, I like them all....bikes that is...
