Extended tilt
I thought I saw somewhere that it's bad to leave the engine tilted for extended periods of time. Is this true and if so what is too long?

Re: Extended tilt
Sounds like FUD to me. I can’t imagine any negative effects that could possibly result from the engine sitting tilted. Have left several tilted for months with oil in the crankcase with zero adverse effects.

Re: Extended tilt
Maybe if somebody tilted the engine using just the drive chain tension to support it and not put some kind of support under the block, that wouldn’t be good for the shaft seal, much like running your chain too tight.

OK, it was something about how it affected the frame but it does seem very unlikely. I've been reading so much and watching so many videos that I can't remember the source.

Re: Extended tilt
Totally agree. When I changed throttle cables for a sport control kit I needed to tilt the engine forward for better carb access. I never considered subjecting chain, output shaft and seal to that kind of abuse. With my luck I would have knocked the seal out. A small bottle or screw jack has many places on the lower front of the engine to react the load from the tilting engine.Jeff Bennetts wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 12:35 pmMaybe if somebody tilted the engine using just the drive chain tension to support it and not put some kind of support under the block, that wouldn’t be good for the shaft seal, much like running your chain too tight.

Re: Extended tilt
On the bottom of the crankcase behind the oil filter are two machining bosses with locating holes in them. Cut a piece of 3'8" rod such that it can fit into those two holes. Makes an excellent jacking point for lowering the engine.
