Normal noise?
When I do a cold start my 1978 CBX has the normal sounds from the motor. After it warms up to "running" temperature I hear an intermittent "clack, clack, clack" sound coming from the clutch cover. This sound is not affected by the pulling of the clutch lever!
At roughly 1500 rpm and above the sound disappears... What is this, should I be worried or is this normal.
Regards

Re: Normal noise?
There are hundreds of threads on the racket coming from the CBX clutch.
It is normal and can be "mostly" eliminated by replacing the clutch rubbers and by having perfectly synched carbs.

I've read those... however I'm not sure it is the clutch... Should the clutch noise not be affected when the lever is pulled??

It will get better but not disappear, It’s just a crappy design - the spring-dampened baskets are head and shoulders better. Many of us harvest those out of Prolink engines and put them in our twin-shocks.

Re: Normal noise?
I am doing exactly that right now . The noise from clutch completely overshadows the sweet sound of 6 at idle

Excellent! I assume you start with draining the oil.... do you remove the ignition pick up or can one take off the clutch cover as a complete unit?? Regards!

Re: Normal noise?
Just put the bike on the side stand. You won’t need to drain the oil. But you do need the special tool to get the hub nut off. Yes, strip all the ignition components. This is an opportunity to check the advancer operation too.

Thanks! I will have to fabricate that tool for the hub nut! Regards!
