Oil leak....

Post by Crazy Canuck »

Good day Forum....
Been a while since I've posted, but come to read some post every so often. The weather is still hit and miss for riding here, but I'm getting my bike ready for summer riding.
After the last short ride about a week ago, I noticed an oil leak at several of the cylinder studs, and am wondering what I've got going on here.

I do need to remove the head to tackle some valve seals, but likely won't do that until next winter.

What is likely causing this leak?

Most likely is the copper sealing washers on the studs, under the cap nuts, are leaking. Just the cam cover comes off to check that. May be just a matter of torquing them, but they may also need annealed. The only studs that could wick oil up through from the crankcase are a couple of the center ones. The rest are blind. I have seen a couple of cases of porous castings causing the stud to pull.
