Con Rod Weights, is this fine?

Post by Hamza »

Hi guys,

So I am making some headway on my 79Z...the crank is in good health but the bearings need replacement. In the process I thought I would weigh the con-rods..the engine is a CB1-2013580.

Rods 1 to 5 have S7 imprinted on them but the number 6 conrod has a 422 on it. Probably casting numbers as I have read...

The weights are as follows:

#1 : 379.14 grams
#2 : 378.50 grams
#3 : 378.83 grams
#4 : 376.56 grams
#5 : 377.07 grams
#6 : 375.66 grams

The maximum difference is 3.48 grams. Is this OK or does the weight needs to be stripped off to a certain limit?

Thanks in advance

What are the weight codes on the rods? Do they all match? 6 rods with the same weight codes should be with in a gram of each other.

Hi Dave,

Thank you.

All of them have D on it except the number 6 which has 3 on it but it seems someone has already shaved a bit off where the D was supposed to be? I am assuming as all of them are D, this would be a D as well and weighs within the range of the others...

Btw these were measured with the bearings inside the con rods and the nuts also...
