Usually people just torque away until the longer shouldered bolt splits the tower, you can’t see it happening because the clutch lifter plate obscures your view.

What should the torque be? I don't see it in the manual.

Use common sense - just tight enough.

When all else fails, check the General Information section of the shop manual. I lists general torque values for the various size bolts and fasteners. Memory is standard strength 6mm bolts at 7-9 ft-lbs. Grade 9 (10.9 metric) at 9-12 ft-lbs.

Thanks! I assumed there would be a specific value listed and wanted confirmation before I defaulted. :text-goodpost:
I now have a functional clutch! I ended up disassembling, cleaning/scuffing all surfaces with 000 steel wool, and submerging in oil and vacuum drying/ oil infusing. Worked first try after assembly!

The shouldered bolts will split the towers, every time.

Using the above specs? Or only when over tightened?

My advice, given hundreds of times, is to just follow the manual.

I would say that spec would crack them. That shoulder is a wedge.

I am re-assembling the clutch now and have just hit this issue. The first problem I had was I had installed the lifter plate with springs (the two longer bolts first to compress the new EBC springs) but then realised that I should have tightened the main nut first, doh! But before that, I had to grapple with the issue of aligning the 4 lugs on the back of the basket with the sprocket. It's quite tricky because you cannot see them meshing together and I was worried that if they were not aligned properly you could damage the sprocket. Thankfully the lugs are tappered a bit to aid installation.

Gentle tapping of the basket appeared to get them lined up and then I installed the washer (the right way round!) and torqued it to the specified amount. Like others I could not find the torque settings for the lifter plate so it will be 10ft-lbs, or tight enough!

You may live to regret those EBC springs.

Is that because they are stiffer than the originals or that they are not great quality?? Or, something else?

One other comment regarding bolt torques: Typically bolt torques are specified for DRY threads. If oil is to be used, a manual will usually specify that. Oiled threads usually should be torqued to 15% less than a given spec. Unless specified.

What JR said - they are a harder pull, for no benefit that I can see.
