Exhaust Flange Torque

Post by Ken Gluckman »

Can someone tell me what the correct torque is for the nuts that hold the exhaust flanges to the ehxaust ports? Or do I just do it by feel?

Post by SS »

Hi ken

Welcome, I looked in my manual and here's what I found.

section 1-4 show torque values for "as they term it" important fastners exhaust flanges aren't listed as one of the "important fasteners".

so here are the HONDA CBX standard bolt/nut sizes listed with torque values

Standard Torque Values Torque N.m (kg-m ft-lb)

Type

5 mm bolt, nut 4.5-6.0 (0.45-0.6, 3.5-4.5)

6 mm bolt, nut 8-12 (0.8-1.2, 6-9)

8 mm bolt, nut 18-25 (1.8-2.5,13-18 )

10 mm bolt, nut 30-40 (3.0-4.0, 22-29)

12 mm bolt, nut 50-60 (5.0-6.0, 36-43)

14 mm bolt, nut 90-100 (9.0-10.0, 65-72)

5 mm screw 3.5-5.0 (0.35-0.5, 2.5-3.6)

6 mm screw 7-11 (0.7-1.1, 5-8 )

6 mm flange bolt,nut 10-14 (1.0-1.4, 7-10)

I hope that gets you going.

BTW: make the torque wrench your friend, it will keep the broken bolt frustration level down
