Swap out 79 front end for 82

Post by mikep7982 »

Does anyone have information/experience swapping out the front end of a 79 with an 82 unit to help stabilize handling?

Front ENd Swap

Post by Tom Neimeyer »

Mike,

I think it is a very straight forward swap. The benefit is well worth the effort. I did this many years ago. However, I do not remember if you need to change out the steering stem but that is about all required,( if so, you use the old '79 stem).

There will be other issues like the disks will need to match the calipers (either both early model or both late). This might lead you to a wheel swap to keep things looking same front to rear.

Regards, Tom

Use Prolink upper and lower trees, boring out the 79 not a great idea, weakens it.
