Aftermarket air fork system on '80

Post by John in CT »

Hello;

I recently resurected the aftermarket air fork kit on my '80 "X' by installing slightly longer front brake hoses. I had noticed in years past when I inflated the forks the whole front end went up 1.5-2" and put stress on the hoses. Now I can put 40 pounds in and no problem with the brake hoses.

The bike seems to handle better, smoother over rough roads, in short a big improvement. I've tested it over the speed range I ride which is under 100 mph, not much but still under. When I discussed this mod with a friend who knows alot more about suspension issues in general, he told me I was altering factory geometry, rake and trail angles and he advised against it.

Any thoughts out there, I can't remember the mfg. but it's the kind with a cross hose and 0-100 psi guage,

Thanks in advance,
