Do any CBX exhausts use this configuration?
Today I found this header for an AMC I6:
This setup alternates the exhaust pulses from one collector to the other, which makes a lot of sense to me, but I don't remember ever seeing this arrangement on any other I6 exhaust.
Does this have drawbacks I'm not seeing (other than packaging)?

They’re called Y Pipe headers, I had one on one of my Toyota pickups!

Sorry, I was wrong - tried to do too much stuff in my head. This setup does not result in power pulses alternating between collectors, while the stock system does.

There is one system that does what you are seeking.
Please look into the Schule cbx exhaust.
Best,
Phil

Re: Do any CBX exhausts use this configuration?
Peter Schüle still is in business. I stopped at his place in fall of 2021 when I was in Germany last. He does no longer offer the CBX 6-1 but is involved in other projects. He says the CBX pipes are not worth making anymore. He cannot charge an attractive price to get a decent return.
I had one at one time and sold it. It is not an ideal exhaust for a country with a speed limit, where you cannot take advantage of the high rpm output. The Schüle is designed to make max hp at higher rpm. It lacks a little of the grunt and punch at low- and mid-range.
If you really want one, you have to hunt for a used one, but be prepared to pay. They are around 3k.

Re: Do any CBX exhausts use this configuration?
I will never understand the disparity of reported results with pods. One person says it's impossible to get the carbs dialed in with them, while another reports that their bike has never run better. I know that there are always other variables: the state of tune of the carbs, the riding style of the owner, different expectations/values... But even so it's remarkable to me how divisive this topic is - across multiple bikes.
Personally, I don't see how CV carbs can work as designed with pods, unless they're more restrictive than the stock airbox - but there are a lot of things in this world that manage to work without me understanding them...

Re: Do any CBX exhausts use this configuration?
That's why I'm going to put the stock airbox back on.
It looks like the stock box has 6 internal velocity stacks designed to compensate for the canted intake manifold.
My bike currently has Tim's 3-pod K & N system, so I'm still using a K & N filter.

That's exactly why I'm designing my EFI throttle bodies to retain the stock airbox.Duffey Lake rd. wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 3:00 pmThat's why I'm going to put the stock airbox back on.

Getting back to exhausts, I'm going to try this 6-2-1 custom
This is just a mock-up to see how it fits.

Please post a pic or three of this exhaust after you have it mounted.
Looks interesting.
